“So how’s this sound for an idea?”
Arrive Friday night and settle into your accommodation before heading down to one of local watering holes for a couple of night caps, before walking back to your accommodation and having a good nights sleep deep in the heart of The Otways, aware that you can’t hear sirens and nightclubs, but rather the gentle sounds of a country night.
You wake up Saturday morning and head down to the event centre where there is a spread on of all the typical breakfast goodies, ready to fuel you for a days riding.
Local produce vendors are starting to setup ready for the afternoon festivals, whilst you get ready for some serious singletrack racing.
Stage 1 starts in the middle of town and you head out through some of Forrest’s most iconic trails for a brief “smashfest” of about 1-2 hours, before finishing back in town and you have a bit of a rest and a bite to eat ready for the next stages.
Stage 2 starts just after lunch and you are thrown into a climbers heaven. Just a short little trip up the hill, this stage will take most riders no more than about 40 minutes as you pass through massive eucalypts, with West Barwon Resevoir on your right side.
After a brief break to catch your breath, you’re now on the starting chute for Stage 3, which will throw you down one of the best Super D courses in Australia.
This adrenaline packed 15 minute descent will have you on the edge as you try to make up valuable seconds you lost to that “roadie” on the climb. Mind you like any “true” Super D course, there is a bit of an uppy bit.
You’ll finish back in town, where you can now rest up, get fed and perhaps even have “a few”, whilst you relax before the final stage of today…
One last blast on Saturday will see you in a quick 20 minute Time Trial out of the Yaugher trails… using one of the locals favourite loops.
During the night you will be entertained by a local DJ at the Forrest Brewery and perhaps a few brewski’s!
Sunday morning will arrive and you will get ready for the Premier Event. Stage 5 will cover some 50K and will feature virtually every piece of single track in the northern end of Forrest. Intersected with enough fire trail to allow you to grab some food and drink. This stage will be like no other before it, in that we will start and finish right in the middle of town. Riders will take between 2.5 and 6 hours to complete this deceptively tough stage with the ultimate winner being able to add to their current total to hopefully take out the win.
During the entire event there will also be a mixture of local produce stalls, music, kids games, kids races hell maybe even a jumping castle!
The Forrest Festival will become the premier event of the Otways and you can brag you were there first.
