Mount Baw Baw is set to host our first event for 2015/16 green season, ‘Pin it 2 Win it’ – a downhill MTB race with a twist, on the 14th and 15th of November.
Unlike other downhill races, ‘Pin it 2 Win It’ is not about speed or being the fastest, but consistency.
The event will challenge downhill riders to ‘pin’ down two consecutive runs of the 1.3 kilometre downhill course. The rider with the closest split times across the two runs will take the cash prize and bragging rights.
Former World Cup winner 20 year old Dean Lucas will have his eyes on the prize, having competed in a number of international competitions this year. Winning the junior World Cup downhill mountain bike race in Italy in 2013, Lucas has had a busy 2015, competing again in the World Cup in Switzerland as well as other international competitions in Canada, Scotland and Austria.
The ‘Pin It 2 Win It’ is open to both male and female riders in the open ages category. Junior riders (U19) will also have the opportunity to compete.
Resort Manger of Mount Baw Baw Alex Flint said that the resort has invested heavily on their trail network and adventure activities in the past twelve months and is looking forward to kicking off the 2015/16 suite of summer events with ‘Pin It 2 Win It’.
“Big jumps and sideways drifting will be the order of the weekend. Riders will hurtle down 300 metres of vertical descent in their attempt to ‘Pin it 2 Win it’ and match two perfectly timed runs,” he said.
“The beauty of this event is that anybody can win,” he added.
Although Mount Baw Baw is close enough to Melbourne for a day trip – just two-and-a-half hours from the CBD – its affordable on-mountain accommodation packages suitable for families, groups and singles, visitors can enjoy a weekend getaway, adding some relaxation to their adventure experience.
“There’s no better place than the pristine alpine environment up here at Mount Baw Baw for people to get active, challenge themselves and have a lot of fun,” said Alex.
