Green (Easy) Blue (More difficult)

Long Track is just under 4km each way so is normally ridden in conjunction with either Cowan Track or Perimeter Trail or both. The terrain is very slightly hilly with a few short pinch climbs or steep descents in either direction. Not a lot of elevation gain overall, but perhaps ever so slightly “uphill” from the start to just before the lookout at the end. The track ends in a loop with a beautiful view of Cowan Creek below and some rocky outcrops to sit on. A good place to take a break.

The fire trail is mainly eroded sandstone with a several sandy patches that require you to pay attention. There is some dirt and clay and plenty of exposed flat rock to either dodge or pop off. The attraction of Long Track is that it provides a challenge to the less fit or the less experienced, but it’s very rideable with some commitment. Medium to very experienced riders would use it for trail mileage and a bit of climbing training in one particularly steep and loose section. Worth a look even if only for the view.

Finding the Trail Head

Flow Nation

There is plenty of roadside parking near the corner of Mallawa Road and Bulara St. Ride down Bulara and turn right at Cullamine Road to get you to the start of the Perimeter Trail (see also trailhead instructions for Perimeter Trail) as it is the gateway to a few others such as Cowan Track and Long Track.

About 700m from the start of Perimeter Trail is a junction on the fire trail where you turn left on to Long Track, sometimes shown as Cowan Track depending on the map. Google says Cowan at this point, but Kuringai cycling map and most locals say Long Track. Pretty sure the sign says Long Track so that’s the tie breaker.
