Giant Factory Off-Road Team rider Marcelo Gutierrez won the 11th running of the Valparaíso Cerro Abajo urban downhill race Sunday in Chile.
The Colombian put on a show for the fans that gathered to watch the world’s best gravity riders in one of the most exciting downhill events of the year.
The course, which travels from the top of Cerro Carcel to the center of Valparaíso, features steep roads, stairs, jumps and 15-foot drops—along with thousands of screaming fans.
Guttierez, a first-year member of the Factory Off-Road Team, took the win on his Giant Glory. He beat two-time Valparaíso champion Filip Polc of Slovakia, who finished second.
The win was the second of the year for Gutierrez, who won the Manizales Urban DH race in Colombia last month.
“I won, but not my much,” Gutierrez said afterward. “I am satisfied and happy. I am going back to Colombia triumphant.”
