  • Description

Big Hill Events are proud to announce another year of the Dirty Gran Fondo in Wandong. Set for Sunday 11th May 2014, riders on different styled bikes will set off on the epic journey through the lush forest of Mt Disappointment completing either the full 90k Dirty Gran Fondo the 65k Fondo or the 35k Medio Fondo.

Categories are based on what type of bike you ride: 26”, 29” wheels, Cyclo Cross or Mongrel (which incorporate all other bikes: singlespeed, fat bikes, fixies etc). The course is set through the scenic, mountainous dirt roads of Mount Disappointment, with some parts of the terrain suiting mountain bikes and others cyclo cross bikes.

Sure there’s a race going on at the pointy end, but that’s not what the Dirty Gran Fondo is all. There are 4 feed zones on route where riders can stock up on food and hydration, and back for 2014 the Fitzroy Revolution’s DC will be setting up the coffee-stop for the 60k and 90k riders. Sit back, take your shoes off, settle around the fire and take a sip on a coffee before embarking on the second leg of the ride!

Due to the varied distances and categories the ride attracts cyclists of all skill and experience levels: last year saw world champion Paul van der Ploeg alongside first time riders and competitors as young as 12 years old!

Held in conjunction with the Wandong-Heathcote Junction community group and other local businesses this ride is going to be a great day out for friends, family and riders to experience the area and get a taste of the local community.
