Destination overview
Towering above the quaint little town of Bright is Mystic Mountain, and among the pine plantations on its slopes, is one of Australia’s most varied trail networks. Bright was first known for its steep and rooty singletrack, but the network is evolving thanks to newer machine-built additions like the Hero Trail and Shred Kelly’s Last Stand. Closer to town in Pioneer Park, there are beginner and family-friendly trails.
Mystic Bike Park
Mystic Park came to be as the result of a cooperative effort between HVP Plantations, the Alpine Shire Council, the Alpine Cycling Club, the North East Victoria Hang Gliding Club, and the Bright & District Chamber of Commerce, who together form the Alpine Community Plantation. However, as the park has developed over the years, it outgrew the volunteer-run model and is now under the watchful eye of Elevation Parks (the same folks who run Maydena Bike Park), who took over in 2024. This has brought the park management, shuttles, trail building, and bike patrol all under one roof.
This is a working forest, and occasionally trails will be closed or slightly rerouted because of harvesting activity. The park is also subject to closure during periods of high fire danger. To find the most up-to-date information, check Mystic Park’s social media pages and website.
Shuttles, views and brews
With so many gravity trails, shuttles are available through Elevation Parks, with uplifts running Friday to Monday during off-peak periods and seven days a week during the peak season. Shuttles aren’t required to enjoy Mystic, and there are some great climbing trails like Up and at Em and Gorilla Warfare.
Nestled in among the Victorian Alps, Bright is tremendously scenic, so make sure to ride up to the Clear Spot Lookout when you visit. The fire road climb gets you out of the trees and up above the bike park — it will get your heart pumping, but trust us when we tell you it’s well worth it.
As of October 2022, you will need to purchase a pass to access Mystic, either a Gravity Pass if you’re planning to utilise the uplift service or the MountainPass if you’d like to pedal in. Annual passes are also available.
Back in town, you can cool down with a swim in the Ovens River or a cold one from Bright Brewery.

Bright offers amazing trails ranging from tech to flow and has stuff for beginners to world cup racers. Bright is a amazing place to go for your first mountain bike trip if you are looking for trails that can accompany anyone with any skill level.
Bright offers a raw & chunky riding experience, which is certainly a popular destination for MTB riders across the state of Victoria. There’s plenty of options for riders of all abilities, with the gentler gradients of the trails which follow Morses Creek better-suited to beginners, whilst the steeper & rockier terrain of trails further up Mystic mountain (e.g. Elevation, World Cup DH, Hero Trail, etc.) offering more of a challenge to those looking to push themselves. For those wanting to pedal their way around Mystic (using no shuttles), a $15 fee per person now applies (correct as of April 2024) to use the land owned by HVP.
