Situated in Central Victoria, the Goldfields Track is a 210km-point-to-point, mixed-use trail, running from Ballarat to Bendigo. It’s probably better known as a walking trail, but it’s become increasingly popular with mountain bikers.
On its own, it’s one of the best point-to-point rides in Australia, but as it happens, a number of trail networks have sprung up at stopping points along the way.
Regardless of what type of mountain biker you are, there is something along the Goldfields track that will tip your fancy. From the DH trails at Black Hill to the XC trails at Creswick, granite rock crawling at Harcourt La Larr Ba Gauwa, to the flowing ‘Baco trails’ at Castlemaine, there are courses for all types of horses.
But it’s not just the trail networks sprinkled along the route that are worth your time, the Goldfields Track itself is one helluva ride. At 61km, it’s a decent day in the saddle and covers a diverse range of scenery.
You’ll need a couple of days to scratch the surface of what the Goldfields Track and the trail towns along it have to offer. This region of Victoria is well known for its produce and small-batch producers, and the list of places to eat, drink and see is sprawling.
There’s spas, historic railroads, authentic French bakeries, Belgian chocolatiers, waterfalls, breweries, distilleries and more.
