Thredbo

Destination overview

High in the Snowy Mountains is Thredbo, where Aussie mountain bikers have come to satisfy their gravity fix for over 30-years.

Shuttles? Pshhh we have a chairlift and a gondola

With chairlifts and gondolas ferrying riders up the mountain, Thredbo has over 30km of descending trails, ranging from the storied Cannonball DH, to more beginner and family-friendly options, like Sidewinder.

But Thredbo is not just for the gravity riders! The 25km Thredbo Valley Trail is an alpine adventure ride, contouring the river valley from the resort all the way down to the Trout Hatchery in Jindabyne.

Events, views and brews

The highlight of each summer is, of course, the Cannonball Mountain Bike Festival. Usually held in early February, Cannonball combines multiple gravity racing formats, head to head pump track action and a whip off, with an expo and live music — good times!

The village has bike shops, restaurants, accommodation and nightlife, but most of the services are down the hill in Jindy.

Once the trail crews have had a chance to tidy up after winter, the lifts usually start spinning in late November, and keep turning until April.

  1. When thredbo turns it on it’s so very very good. Trail crew work hard to keep the trails running well and there are plenty of features to keep you trying new lines. The runs are super long compared to pretty much anywhere else I’ve ridden and the alpine scenery is unique and beautiful. Don’t forget to swim in the river post ride.
