Fidlock has been offering its unique magnetic-release water bottles for quite a few years now, and the Fidlock Twist Bottle is one of the most recent designs from the US-based brand. Just like the original model, the Fidlock Twist is designed to replace the traditional bottle cage with its nifty magnetic rail mechanism.
Fidlock Twist Bottle & Bike Base
The new Fidlock Twist Bottle is available in three sizes; 450ml, 590ml and 750ml. Shown here is the Goldilocks option, the 590ml bottle, which should fit in most full suspension mountain bike frames. Shorter riders on more compact frames may be better off with the 450ml option that will fit into tighter spaces.
Compared to previous bottle designs, the new Fidlock Twist features a more rounded profile and a self-sealing high pressure valve. This makes it easier to drink out of as you don’t need to pull the nozzle open with your teeth for water to flow through. A dirt cover then shields the mouthpiece.
Low-profile bolts are included with the Fidlock Twist bottle, and the base plate mounts in the same position as a conventional bottle cage. It’s worth noting that the magnetic mechanism and base plate does add some stack height. Compared to a conventional bottle and cage, the Fidlock Twist sits higher by around 10mm, which may present some clearance issues on certain frames designs.
The magnetic retention system works well, with just a 1/4 turn required to free the bottle from the mount. It’s also reversible depending on whether you want the bottle to release when twisting to the left or right.
