South African brand Leatt requires very little introduction when it comes to mountain bike body armour and rider protection. Best known for pioneering the modern neck brace, Leatt has been expanding on its product range in recent years to include everything from knee pads, shoes and goggles through to jerseys, shorts and gloves.
Here we’ll be taking a look at one of the newest items from Leatt. It’s the AllMtn 4.0 helmet; a high-end, breathable open-face lid that features the unique 360° Turbine Technology.
Leatt MTB AllMtn 4.0 Helmet

The Leatt AllMtn 4.0 is the brand’s flagship open-face trail helmet. Drawing inspiration from Leatt’s full face lids and the clever 3-in-1 Enduro 3.0 helmet we’ve tested previously, the AllMtn 4.0 is built around a dual density EPS and EPO foam core. A full coverage in-molded polycarbonate shell provides external protection while also reinforcing the helmet around its 18 vents.
360° Turbine Technology
Inside you’ll spot a bunch of blue rubber pucks that make up Leatt’s 360° Turbine Technology. Instead of a typical MIPS liner like you’ll find in most of Leatt’s competitor helmets, these squidgy blue ‘turbines’ are designed to achieve a similar goal by allowing the helmet shell to rotate around your noggin in the event of an angular impact.
On top of that, they provide further cushioning to help absorb direct impact energy. Leatt claims its turbines “reduce peak brain acceleration by up to 30% at impact speeds associated with concussion” and “reduce peak brain rotational acceleration by up to 40%“. Those are some impressive numbers that will appeal to folks who are conscious of keeping their brain intact when riding out in the bush.
Quality comfort
Purely from a fit perspective, we like that the turbines don’t really interfere with how the helmet sits on your head. Indeed with its easily adjustable harness the AllMtn 4.0 is snug, secure and comfortable. The Fidlock magnetic buckle is a nice touch, and so too is the large adjustable visor that’s designed to break away in the event of a crash. Click the visor into its highest position and you’ll reveal the integrated sunglasses storage underneath, with rubber-lined vents to keep the arms in place.
All-up, this is a really nice trail helmet that is packed with loads of well-considered features at a not-insane price. Well done Leatt!
