The Fox 32 Taper-Cast is a new gravel fork with 40-50mm of travel

After months of teasing, the Fox 32 Taper-Cast fork has finally launched, and boy is it a curious looking thing! Bringing with it technology developed from Fox Racing Shox’ mountain bike product range, the 32 Taper-Cast shrinks it all down into a slimmer and lighter package that’s designed to better integrate into the front end of modern gravel bikes.

The Fox 32 Taper-Cast brings mountain bike technology to the drop bar world, featuring a super light chassis with 40-50mm of travel.

What’s this Fox 32 Taper-Cast all about?

Replacing the outgoing 32 AX (which was essentially a lowered version of the Fox 32 Step-Cast mountain bike fork) the new Fox 32 Taper-Cast has been engineered from the start as a purpose-built suspension fork for the more extreme side of gravel riding. It’s designed for progressive drop bar bikes like the BMC URS, Canyon Grizl, Specialized Diverge and Focus Atlas, and it enters the market as a hot new competitor to the RockShox Rudy.

The 32 Taper-Cast features 40mm or 50mm of travel, a tuneable air spring, and either Fox’s FIT4 or GRIP damper. It’s built around 32mm diameter stanchions, tapered magnesium legs with a reverse arch, a 12x10mm bolt-up axle, and low-profile top caps for maximum downtube clearance.

Since the air spring and dampers are built specifically for the shortened travel, Fox has been able to reduce weight over the previous 32 AX fork. Claimed weight for the top-end Factory Series model is just 1,226g, making this the lightest suspension fork that Fox has ever built. Impressive!
