More than 200 mountain bikers are expected to race at James Estate in the Upper Hunter Valley at Baerami. The event will be the second in the five-race SHIMANO Mountain Bike Grand Prix Series, which offers four and seven hour challenges for solo and team riders.

James Estate is located in the Upper Hunter Valley, about 2 hours West of Newcastle in Baerami near Denman/Muswellbrook. The winery is not only well-know for its delicious wines, but also for the beautiful surrounds. Visitors to the Cellar Door at Baerami can not only explore the property on a ridge walk, which takes them to a magnificent lookout high above the vineyards, but they can also ride their mountain bikes on custom-built trails.

James Estate was recently awarded the title “Star Cellar Door and Best Additional Experience” by the Gourmet Traveller Wine magazine, which is a credit to the efforts of its General Manager and winemaker Graeme Scott.

“Mountain biking is a great passion of mine and I’ve been building trails on the property for the past four years. We’ve had many visitors on two wheels to the Cellar Door over the past few weeks since opening the trails to the public”, says Graeme Scott who was able to secure an event by race organiser Rocky Trail Entertainment for James Estate. They will host one of their SHIMANO Mountain Bike Grand Prix endurance series races at the winery on 20 April.

“It is a unique location and the enthusiasm and hospitality of the entire James Estate crew was just irresistible”, said organiser Martin Wisata from Rocky Trail. “We are excited to include a brand-new venue into our SHIMANO MTB Grand Prix racing series and help put this beautiful spot in the Hunter Valley on the map for Australian mountain bikers”, he added.
