Situated 13km SE of the city centre in the foothills of the Lofty Ranges, Eagle Mountain Bike Park is the best known trail centre in the city and one of the most accessible mountain biking locations in Australia.

Round 1 of the Subaru Australian Mountain Bike Season will see this legendary venue host the XCE, XCO and DHI events over the opening weekend of Australia’s only World Tour event, the Santos Tour Down Under.

XCO

Out at Eagle Park, Australian mountain biking’s pain merchants will take on the greatest hits of the 21kms of steep and deep cross country trails. Designed by Evan James, there’s a lot of singletrack requiring aggressive passing moves.

Expect: Rocks, switchbacks and loose, rutted trails but also some faster stuff too.

Watch out for local boy and current Australian Mountain Bike National Champion, Chris Jongewaard.

DHI

The Eagle Park DHI course is not the steepest around but it makes up for it with its technical demands. A dirty great rock garden and more opportunities to come off than a rodeo.

Expect: Bodies bouncing off rocks and the smoothest bike handler to take the day.

Watch out for locals Laura Kelly and Dana Ross going toe-to-toe in the Junior Female class.
