Following a successful season in 2012 as the Anytime Fitness-Trek team, picking up multiple National Champion titles and supporting Dan McConnell and Bec Henderson as they sought Olympic selection and then competed at the London Olympics, Target Australia is joining as title sponsor.
“The initiative to form the Target Trek Mountain Bike Team with Trek, is one we are very proud of and as Australia’s leading mid-tier retailer, we are committed to improving the lives of Australians. We want to help our customers to feel and look good through affordable fashion, our range of products to assist health and wellbeing and by encouraging everyone to get outside and enjoy an active lifestyle with their families,” said Dene Rogers, Managing Director, Target Australia
“Trek has a rich heritage in racing and with the Target Trek Mountain Bike Team we ensure we are racing to win now and into the future. The team has an established culture of performance and sportsmanship on and off the trails that makes us proud of what has been achieved, and very excited about the future with the new Target partnership,” said Simon Thompson, Trek Sports Marketing Director.
While the team boasts multiple current National Champions, there is also a strong emphasis on developing talent, helping younger riders to achieve their full potential in mountain bike racing.
“I am super excited about the start of this season, as the new team structure has taken nearly three years to develop. With the continued support of Anytime Fitness, the additional sponsorship from Target Australia, and the exceptional support from Trek Bikes, the Target Trek Mountain Bike Team can provide talented young riders with a genuine pathway from being a ‘promising junior’, right through to being a ‘full-time pro rider’ with the top global Trek team. The generous support from Target will be used to ensure our most promising juniors not only have the best equipment to train and race on, but are provided with an environment and support network aided by the senior riders. As well as riding fast, we want to educate them on good sportsmanship and athlete professionalism. It is very exciting to be involved,” said Richard Peil, the Team Owner.
The team will be focusing on the MTBA National Series events and select enduro races around the country. They will be riding Trek’s ultra lightweight Superfly SL and Superfly 100 SL 29er race bikes, and will also be supported heavily by Shimano and Adidas Eyewear.
You will be able to see the team racing in their new colours for the first time at this weekend’s National Series race at Mt Buller.
