This weekend Australia’s largest mountain bike marathon, the Briars Highland Fling, will run for the eighth year. Attracting over 2000 riders and bringing together Australia’s most impressive elite field.

It is also the final race in the Real XCM Series – a series initiated in 2011 to help raise the profile of the sport in Australia and provide elite athletes with a serious and organised competition throughout the year. It’s hotly contested and it’s going to be a battle on the bike.

The Full Fling (112km) race will be a decider in the Men’s overall Series with Shaun Lewis and Andy Blair going pedal for pedal. We’re expecting new records to be set.
And whilst the women’s Series is already in the bag for Jenny Fay with 5 from 5 wins, she’s facing her toughest elite competition this year, including Australia’s London Olympian Bec Henderson.

But the Briars Highland Fling is more than one race. It’s become a mountain bike festival weekend celebrating the best of cycling, with events ranging from kid’s skills clinics and a dash around the town centre on Saturday night, to the no-need-to-pedal Rolloff World Championships and 100Mile (165km) Fling.
