Best known for their alpine adventure clothing and backpacks, Macpac have recently entered the world of mountain biking gear. At first we were skeptical as to how good these shorts could be coming from a company with little history in cycling apparel, but it looks like they did their research! [private]
A popular trend with baggy shorts is to have a removable inner liner, so we were hesitant to see this one sewn in. Luckily, the Coolmax liner is a quality piece, offering outstanding comfort and no unwanted movement. A real neat feature, and one that made all the difference, is the lack of elastic at the front of the inner liner. Instead, the design uses the outer short zipper and snap buttons to hold it all together.
The outer short proved to be durable, resisting scuffs well and its simple black styling was appreciated. The zippered pockets are placed perfectly, holding a mobile phone securely in place on the inside of the thigh – not in the way of being taken by a tree or flapping about through furious pedalling.
For a brand with little past experience in cycling, we’re blown away by how well these shorts performed and lasted.
