The riding in Yackandandah is wonderfully straightforward. You don’t need a shuttle pass or a Trailforks membership to find your way, nor do you need to scare yourself, or be as fit as Bec McConnell to enjoy the Yack Tracks.

Ride the Yack Tracks

The Yack Tracks are an outlier in the Victorian High Country; seemingly endless XC trails play with the remains of the gold mining era. One minute you’re zipping up an old water race and then trying to thread the needle through a clay canyon, bearing the scars of pickaxes and spades.

The trails here are tame enough they won’t scare a newcomer into never wanting to ride again, but have enough pizzazz to keep experienced riders entertained when you inject speed into the equation.

Better still, the Yack Tracks offer the real, ‘rock-up-and-ride’ experience. The board at the trailhead has all the info you need, and detailed signage keeps the good times rolling without the need for GPS or pre-downloaded maps.

Yack eats, drinks and stays

The main street of town is lined with old trees and encased in a tunnel of green. There’s excellent food and cafes, the vibe is totally relaxed, and all the shops have a bit of personality — it’s a great escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Less than half an hour away from Beechworth, the two towns are now connected by the Indigo Epic trail. Serving as the first year-round Epic trail in Australia, it’s one of the best days out we’ve every had.
