With the new riding season in full swing, Trek sent us out some of its latest riding kit in the form of the new Evoke mountain bike shorts and tech tee. Sitting above the Rhythm line, the Evoke apparel range represents Trek’s premium MTB gear. The style is decidedly casual, but the use of high-tech fabrics and a semi-fitted cut makes them ideal for riders who are looking for comfortable riding kit that offers good performance on the trail.
On top of that, these garments are hiding some pretty neat eco-credentials that are helping to elevate the bar for the rest of the bike industry.
Trek Evoke Mountain Bike Shorts

Believe it or not, the Trek Evoke mountain bike shorts are manufactured from at least 21 PET plastic bottles. Yep – the polyester used in their construction comes from recycled plastic bottles, which is fantastic!
The outer shell is a blended fabric that features 86% recycled polyester and 14% spandex. It’s the latter that gives the shorts their two-way stretch characteristic, and combined with a semi-fitted cut they’re a comfortable pair of shorts for trail riding. They are on the shorter side though, so gravity riders who prefer longer and baggier shorts to pair with knee pads will want to look elsewhere.
Open hand pockets contribute to the casual style, while a zippered back pocket is handy for keys and other small valuables. The integrated velcro waist adjustment makes it easy to dial in the fit, though you can add a belt if needed.
While ours came without, production Evoke shorts will be supplied with a removable padded liner. The inner short features a lightweight chamois and is also made with a combination of spandex and recycled nylon.

Up top we’ve got the matching Evoke mountain bike tech tee. This may look like a casual t-shirt, but it’s actually made from a pretty clever fabric that uses a stretchy cotton and polyester mix. The polyester is a recycled material that according to Trek has saved 35 plastic bottles from going to landfill. Nice!
The Evoke tech tee gets a chemical-free treatment, with the drirelease yarn helping to better wick moisture to keep you cool when things get hot and sweaty. As with the Evoke shorts, the tech tee gets a semi-fitted cut so it’s not overly baggy. It also features a dropped tail that prevents you from exposing your arse-crack to other riders, which we can all agree is a good thing!
