This is Peaty – Final Episode for 2014

This Is Peaty Season 3 has come to a close, after one hell of a year. The rise of the rat, endless laughing and another packed season full of travelling around the globe with Mountain Biking’s biggest legend to date.

It seems a long time ago since Episode One back in 2012…Like we’ve always preached, It was all about keeping things fun from the start with TIP.

The main aim of TIP was to bring you closer to Steve and co outside of the racing too. It’s not an act, both Steve, Rat and all their mates do have a tonne of fun both at home and whilst racing professionally around the world. The Syndicate is a special grouping of individuals, much more than your average race team, all with huge personalities which keep both the fans and everyone around them inspired and entertained.

The story between Peaty and his long lost son Ratboy is a genuine as friendships get on the circuit. After bringing him all those years ago, to see him rise to his first World Cup overall win this year was a huge thing for both of them.

On and off the track they both keep things sideways, like father like son….

Things can’t always be a fairytale ending, but what an ending it was out in Hafjell.

Both Steel City Media and Steve can’t thank all our fans and sponsors enough for the support over the last few years.

See you all soon,

Cheers.

This Is Peaty – Season 3, Episode 6

After a long season for Steve Peat and co, It all came down to the final round out in Meribel.

Could Rat take the overall or would nerves get the better? Could Peaty regain some end of season form and hit the podium?

After all was said and done out in France, there was no rest for the wicked as it was time to head to Hafjell once again for World Champs.

Ratboy was fully peaking, on the form of his life, whilst Peaty was quietly confident on a track he’s done well on in the past…

Find out how the story unfolded and more in Episode 6 of This Is Peaty!

This Is Peaty – WC Track Design, 27.5″ Testing and 16″ Racing!

Lenzerheide is a new World Cup Round for 2015 and for years to come apparently… Being a part of the track development is a new and exciting venture for Peaty, but does he feel the pressure to come through and provide the riders fans alike with a memorable course?

Steve has been down about his last couple of results, so it was amazing that all his sponsors pulled together in time to create a new bike for him to ‘find his flow’ again… Smaller wheels and a rigid rear end means you’re at one with the bike and have a lower centre of gravity which = more grip. Honest.

On a serious note though, who doesn’t want a V16 to mess around on?!

There’s been talk for a while now of a new bike for the Syndicate… Most of the top teams and riders have been on 27.5 wheels for a while now, so as a natural progression it was only time until the team was going to be rolling on bigger wheels…

Check out some exclusive first ride footage from out in Livigno during a test session with the full Santa Cruz team and Fox Suspension.

All this and more in this months episode of This Is Peaty!

Santa Cruz Syndicate Reveal New 650B V10

Now the Rat’s really out of the bag!

The Santa Cruz Syndicate are constantly testing new products as they maraude around the globe on their UCI World Cup campaign.  Sometimes these products have subtle adapations that demand a trained eye to pick up on.  Other times it’s a little more obvious.

The rat was out of the bag when Josh Bryceland won the UK National Championships on an unmarked vehicle in Innerleithen on July 20th.

So, while we’re unable to confirm ANY details about the bikes the guys are racing on in Mont Sainte Anne, we’re not going to deny that what you see here isn’t happening…

This Is Peaty – Episode 2, in Cairns.

“It’s been a busy few weeks since South Africa!”

WC_Cairns_Qualifying-8693

Peaty wasn’t lying when he said it’d been a hectic couple of weeks since the first UCI World Cup round.

Starting with the annual pilgrimage to the Scottish Six Day Trial with James Dabill, then onto the Swiss Alps with Claudio Calouri to scout a new World Cup track for 2015…

All of this was perfect training for Peaty’s home race, ‘Steel CIty Downhill’, the world biggest/smallest downhill race.
An amazing weekend, with a huge turnout… did Steve take his 4th win in a row?

When you think Australia, you think dry, barren and dusty. Cairns was certainly the opposite, which made for a memorable week of both racing and off the bike adventures.

“He’s one of the best at what he does, so why change him?”

Over the course of Peaty’s career, winters spent with Adella Carter and the Sheffield Hallam team have proved vital in his long and illustrious career.

Getting time of the DH bike is always tough with such a busy schedule and other commitments, so starting off the season with a trip to Barcelona to catch up with Ivan Oulego for his annual race was rad. David Vasquez, our UCI World Cup delegate and part time tour guide took us to some of the best trails Barcelona had to offer and after two days of smashing laps with Bernat Guardia and co, everyone was psyched.

At the Oulego race the sun was out and so were the fans in their thousands… With a short, fast track times were always going to be tight and come race day it came down to a tight finish with Bernat pipping Steve to the top step… but a solid result on a dustry dry track coming into PMB.

Winter Dual and the local Sheffield scene has been another vital ingredient in keeping Peaty young and having fun during the dark winter months. Racing Rum anyone?

TiPDual-8951-2

It’s the final stop at PMB for the foreseeable future, with the Syndicate looking to make their mark on the 2014 season

Did things work out? Find out and more in Episode 1 of This Is Peaty – Season 3.

Cairns 2014: Tropic Thunder

“It’s just a passing tropical shower.” Yep, right. Mother Nature reared her ugly Queenslander mug today and gave Smithfield a true soaking, right on cue for the start of group A downhill practice.

The results were in equal parts horrendous, exciting, frustrating and awesome. With any line choices from yesterday’s track walk going right out the window, riders were faced with a track that changed from run to run. Vision was next to nil by the time riders reached the lower portions of the track, while the off-camber red clay of the Alien Tree was causing havoc up top.

At the end of the day, timed practice showed that Gee Atherton had made it down the hill fastest, with Ragot on top in the women’s. But when the course is more a matter of survival than skill, timed practice results mean nothing at all. Bring on qualifying tomorrow!

Yep it was wet, there's no hiding it. It was brutal for everyone on the mountain, riders, spectators, and media and as we type this caption it's still raining. Lets pray for a dry race as it's undoubtedly better for the riders, spectators and the media.

It was a slow start to Peaty’s 2013 campaign… Building through the year and gaining speed whilst others faded, Norway was set to be his World Cup highlight, smashing his way back into the top 10 and just missing out on a potential podium place, behind his team mate Greg Minnaar!

Carrying this form and confidence into the final round in Leogang was key and Peaty didn’t look set to slow down at all… After a huge off in practice, some thought he might take it easy, but once again he powered through to a solid 9th place finish in Finals and also got to cheer the pet Rat on the podium!

Thailand is a place of many things… If you have the money, i’m pretty sure you could do ANYTHING you wanted. We only touched the surface last year, so another trip to Chiang Mai to see the Loose Riders, with Ratboy and Sambo in tow seemed like a plan.

Another hectic week, with bikes, beer, ladyboys and bars, we were all ruined and ready for home.

It’s been a busy few weeks since Val Di Sole for Peaty…

The 2nd World Enduro series was a huge change from the inaugral round out in Punta Ala… Plenty of downhill, which allowed the Syndicate to shine, with top 10 finishes for all of them!

After a stressful week on the GXC circuit, they needed some down time out in St Tropez. Sun, sand and Bryceland’s arse, before heading home for National Champs… Which turned out to be a belter of a course, fast and dusty in the height of the British Summer…could this be Steve’s 10th title?

It seems like ages since the last World Cup of 2012…. With everyone itching to get going, it was always going to be a fast start to 2013…

Fort Williams is a place close to Peaty’s heart, for many reasons… Watch the ups and downs of his journey to the first World Cup of the season, before heading home to Sheffield, to catch up with K-rad and the boys for some Drift Trike Action!

There’s no rest for the wicked though and with a back to back race in Val Di Sole for the 2nd round, it was go time once again…

Video: This is Peaty – Season 2 – Episode 2

It’s been a dream of Peaty’s for a while, to head out to the Isle of Man and take a lap round the TT course…

Even at cruising speed, you can’t even start to think how fast the competitors fly round the track, putting everything on the line, year after year.  Legends such as John Mcguiness and Connor Cummins took a bit of time out of their hectic schedule to meet up for a chin wag, to discuss all things speed and two wheels.

Before he could even pack his backs, it was go time yet again, for the first big trip of the season, out to California for some Syndicate beach time and the infamous Sea Otter Classic event.

After a ‘relaxing’ few days in downtown Santa Cruz, with two slightly battered beach cruisers in tow, the full team headed off to Laguna Sec Raceway to see if all that off-season training had paid off…

With strong results for everyone in the Downhill and a nail-biting slalom finish for Peaty, it was a perfect start to the year. As you’ll see, Kathy Sessler was stoked.

This is Peaty 2013 – Season 2 Trailer

This is Peaty – Season Finale

What a year.

Massive highs and huge lows for Steve Peat.
On record, this will probably go down as one of his worst World Cup seasons to date, in terms of results….

But off the circuit and even off the bike, Peaty has been and done some amazing things during 2012.

We take a look behind the scenes in Hafjell, Norway, the last World Cup of 2012 and why Steve couldn’t carry his practice speed into this race run…

Nothing’s better than a happy ending, so we went to Thailand to get one…. Amazing trails, food and people… A crazy local race, long jump contests, muay thai fighting…. what a trip, all thanks to http://wwwX-BikingChiangMai.com

We hope you’ve enjoyed This Is Peaty Season 1.

Here’s to 2013.

Cheers!!

This is Peaty – Season Finale Trailer

It’s been a long season for Steve Peat….

A new location for the final UCI World Cup round in Norway, a track that looked to suit the big man from Sheffield… But this is racing and things don’t always go your way.

On the other side of the world, a whole different kind of race took place just a few weeks later in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Thanks to the hard work of X-Biking Chinag Mai.
Loose is the word, for this final trip.

The Grand Finale, for This Is Peaty, Season 1. Coming November 20th
